My MCAT score was a 28 (9PS, 9V, 10BS), and I have a 3.7 cGPA and 3.6 sGPA with a strong diversity of ECs and strong LORs. I'm a Cali resident. I know my MCAT score is lower than that "safe" 30, but how much of a chance do I have at MD only if I don't retake, considering how balanced my subscores are? Would someone with a >30 MCAT score with say, a very low verbal, be preferred over me?

You're in that coin flip range. Apply to the low tiers like Rosalind etc and hope for the best. You never know til you try!

Strongly suggest that you do some research and find out which schools will be friendliest to you. GPAs are good and I'll bet you can get in somewhere. Don't know about the CA schools, except that they're rigorous, even for in-state people. Touro-CA and Western will snap you up in a heartbeat, though!

You will be a long shot in CA (except at Loma Linda if you are congruent with their mission).

Honestly, a "very balanced 28" is just another way of saying "very balanced mediocrity" for MD programs. DO programs will snatch you up and a few MD programs with specific missions will look at your app and may interview you if they feel you fit that mission. Otherwise, you're not really in the competitive range for MD, sorry. Either retake or apply DO/low-tier (unranked) MD mix and take what you can get.

And FYI to whoever mentioned Rosalind, last I checked it wasn't that exactly low-tier. It's in the 60s. That's solid mid-tier. Those schools are still highly competitive. Even LLU is quite competitive and would likely not take the OP unless s/he is SDA with the hookups..

Made a 28 (with an 8 in phy). I've received at acceptance at ETSU, my number one school, and have interviews at 4 other schools, (U of M, UT, UF, VCU). Did research, but I'm not published. I have a lot of volunteer work. That's it, I would still apply, it worked in my favor.

Their website (Here) Says 3.55 28, which is below the OPs stats, but if you have more up to date or accurate info then by all means I'd believe that. My general point was to seek out places he was at or above.

Thanks for the advice everyone, but I think I'm going to retake 🙂
