I am accepted into LECOM's IBL program, but I want to switch to LBL because I my friend is in that program. Is there anyway at all that I can switch since I just got the acceptance yesterday. Thank a lot.

I think its easy to get out of Independent study and into lecture, some people did so during gross in our class and they opened up their seats to other students. I would talk to Dr. Andrews, hes in charge of Independent study I think.

But I would reccomend thinking about it, because lecture is rough, and having a friend in there is not a really great reason to switch, in my opinion. If you learn better independently, you will end up wasting a lot of time in lecture that you could use studying instead!

Thanks for your reply. I do learn better independently, but I also want to go through an actual med school experience and meet ppl and make connections. Are you in ISP or LBL? Which do you prefer and for what reasons. Thanks.

I am in PBL, which makes for a good compromise as far as working with others etc. But I do see LOTS of ISP people studying in groups at school, which is what most of us PBLs do as well. I guess I would agree that LDP is more of the traditional med school experience, but maybe you should wait until gross starts to decide. I think some people did that last year. Talk to Dr. Andrews and let him know your concerns.
I would be miserable sitting in lecture all day. I don't learn well that way, and I would not do as well. But some people do learn that way, so its more important to decide whats right for you.
I understand about meeting people etc but trust me thats not a problem with any pathway, especially after gross. You will know lots of people, and you need groups to get through any of the pathways. I hope this helps. Good luck, its a tough decision!

I have to agree with hermione on this one. I am in PBL, and the one thing that most PBL, ISP, and LDP students agree on is that, in many cases, the lectures aren't worth a lot. Most profs just read directly off of a powerpoint.

If you are an independent learner, I strongly encourage you to wait to make your choice until after gross anatomy. All 3 pathways meet as a group during gross, so you'll meet lots of people. You also get a taste of the ISP pathway during those 12 weeks. It's plenty of time to make a decision. However, if you make your choice now, it's a pretty good bet that they won't let you switch back.

Good luck.

Thanks, I think I'll wait. Do you think I should do any prep at all this summer for the courses, I am sooo nervous about how I will do since I havent touched the sciences for about three years. Thanks.

Dr. Jenni...
enjoy the summer. You will have plenty of time to stress later. Summer job, play, lay out in the sun, take a trip, camp, hike, etc...do those summer things. You may regret it come august if you do not.
