If I submit my primary application (already verified--waiting for new MCAT score) at the beginning of September and my secondaries shortly after (no longer than a few days after primary) am I applying late in the cycle? Will this affect my chances? The reason why I ask is because as is, I am not a very strong candidate, although I did go to a good school and have solid clinical experiences and research. My GPA is low and I need my second MCAT score to be strong. I got my AMCAS verified early, but do not want to risk being pre-screened.

Any thoughts would be extremely helpful, thank-you

Most people on SDN would consider this somewhat late. It's all relative. If that's the soonest you can be complete, then that's the way it is and there's no sense in worrying about it. If I were you I would go with this plan and hope for the best. In my opinion it's not late enough that you should forego applying and wait until next year, but if you don't get in this cycle I would apply as early as possible next cycle.

Also, I've heard that some schools send out secondaries without screening for MCAT scores, and thus some students receive them before their MCAT score is even in; if you're applying to any of those, I would think timing wouldn't be an issue for your chances at those schools.

yes sept is getting to be late, and yes it will affect your chances (though to what degree is debatable). But like the above person stated, if thats when you are ready then theres no point in worrying. There are tons of people every year who apply when you do and still get in, but near every one of them wishes they did apply earlier even after an acceptance. Just apply in sept and see where it takes you.

if your AMCAS is already verified, that's one huge time hurdle out of the way. although i don't understand how you got verified before submitting... 😕

Just stay on top of the secondaries, many you can find online and quickly submt. Make the mcat score the last piece missing for your apps, so you are not scrambling through sept to write mini-essays for your secondaries. How did you verify without submitting?
