Very low GPA, I Need Help!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's not really about raising the GPAs, which you've done a marvelous job so far.

It's about showing that the you have now is not the you of then.

Honestly, you need to take courses that mimic rigorous medical school courses. Your sociology like courses don't do that for me.

I suggest that you work, save up some money and then go to school full time so you knock off the biology courses with lab.

And read my post on reinvention for pre-meds.

Welcome to the forums!

Which schools have a lab component to genetics or advanced cell/molecular biology?

I agree with Goro: look at other recommended courses like human physiology, anatomy (make sure it's not for allied health or nursing), microbiology, immunology, pharmacology, neurobiology, and histology. There may be a lab component for microbiology, anatomy, and physiology, but I would be shocked if pharmacology, immunology, neurobiology, or histology do.

Given the predicament that you're in, I say take the path of least resistance and go with what works. If he can find a course that doesn't have a lab, and develop a schedule that works with your work schedule, go for it

Yes I am

Ps. Hi Faha! I am looking forward to someday asking for your school list recommendations! I'm a big fan of🙂 thank you!
You are fine to take courses at a local community college. Take undergraduate level science courses that you have not previously taken.
Since your MCAT is 520+ you should receive interviews and I suggest these schools:
All 4 SUNYs
Albany
New York Medical College
Einstein
Hofstra
Vermont
Quinnipiac
Boston University
Dartmouth
Brown
Hackensack
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
Georgetown
George Washington
Virginia Commonwealth
Wake Forest
USF Morsani
Miami
Tulane
Belmont
TCU
Creighton
St. Louis
Rosalind Franklin
Rush
Loyola
Medical College Wisconsin
Oakland Beaumont
Wayne State
Roseman

Omg! This is an awesome list, thank you! I have been waiting for this moment for so long lol. I have to ask though... and I probably know the answer already, but is Mount Sinai totally out of the question?

Try UC Extension. The time and money spent on those humanity post bacc courses would be better spent elsewhere, even if it is a bit more expensive than your public state school options. Doing well in science courses is the last piece to improve on your application. Everything else appears exceptional from what you shared so far.

I imagine it’s the same. Just that it’s mostly hybrid instead of fully online, so it’s known only to New York residents really.

I understand... Thank you for helping me again. But also, if you saw my application like this, how many more credits (aside from the sociology and humanities classes you mentioned) would you say I should take to be stronger?
9-12 more.
Ps. Would it be alright if I came back here next semester and asked you all for more advice with updates on what I have been doing, or should I make a new post at that point?
Of course!!!

Good luck!

OP: also, try to connect with SNMA or LMSA chapter officers to create potential mentoring relationships and insights into schools you wish to attend. You are shaping up to be a great diamond-in-the-rough applicant ("look at the most recent biomedical courses taken!"). I know you said you want to stay around the east coast, but I think you'd grab some attention at the midwest schools (Chicago area including Rush and Loyola, Case, Michigan, I'll throw in WashU as a possibility).

I'm not sure how places like Rutgers would weigh your profile. They may feel you might be highly recruited at other schools with stronger financial aid packages?, but... I'm just throwing it out there. If you going for the 2027 entering class, start showing up when you can for recruitment events at the schools where you want to attend (virtually is fine), and make sure the admissions recruiters know you'll be out there.
