Hello sdn
I am a current fifth year biopsych major about to graduate this summer.
First year gpa: 3.42
Second year gpa: 3.55

JUNIOR YEAR:
Fall quarter:
Ochem 118A: NP (no pass)
Intro to Computers: P (pass)
Exercise and Fitness: P (pass)
Human Sexuality: B-

Winter Quarter:
Ochem 118A: C
FRS 004: P
Nut 10: B+

Spring Quarter:
Ochem 118b: C+
MacroEcon: C-
Humanities: P
Intro to Linguistics: NP (no pass)

Summer session 1:
Retook Macroecon at JC: A
Ochem 118c: B-
Summer session 2:
Ochem 8b: B

A lot of things factored into this rough year including working, transferring to a new school, the death of a close family member, and me and my wife going through the process of splitting apart and will be having a divorce this year.

I wanted to add I have not taken any class P/NP besides the classes my junior year. I just couldn't handle the constant stress I was under and made a rookie mistake of not taking the year off.

4th year gpa: 3.6
fifth year gpa: 3.25-3.30 (If all goes well, my end fifth year gpa should be around 3.42)

As you can see I had a very very rough Junior year.
Do I still have a chance of getting into medical school or should I be looking at masters programs.

I am taking the MCAT this summer.
My practice scores have ranged from 505-507

Apply broadly to all DO schools and you should get some interviews.

^ agree. Apply broadly and early and address the drop in grades in your PS or any supplemental applications you get. You mcat is pretty competitive if you get 505+, but you'll have to compensate for having a lower GPA.

thank you for the responses.
yeah my overall cgpa should be around 3.35 and science gpa around 3.26
I go to a top 10 public university in the US ( I don't know how much that matters)
Ranked top 40 nationally if you count all universities (public + private)

I am thinking about retaking the ochem series as a diy post bacc to show I can get As in the subject and just had a bad year.

UCLA? 😀

thank you guys. unfortunately I am a curry fed brown boy (over-represented minority)

I also took the first quarter off this year to take care of my father who got diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. During this time, I worked and shadowed an oncologist as well.
Also I wanted to add that I am a part-time student for my last quarter (working 30 hrs/week + hospice volunteering). I will have one more class left to take during summer.
would this along with my junior year be frowned upon by admissions?

100% OK

If you are a minority with those stats you'll be in like flint. In the event you're a plain corn-fed white boy, you'll have to pump up the interview charm to get in.
:laugh::laugh: This is gold... Gotta love them corn-fed white boys lol.
