hey peeps,

so im studying bio today trying to get through all of cliffs before my test next thurs (19th) i can't help but notice how the bio scores are always lowest of the sciences on everyones breakdown...yes i know its due to randomness. I just feel very uneasy knowing that no matter how much work i put into studying bio its still gonna come down to chance and luck and obviously as science majors we all HATE that....I just don't know how to go abt this and time is ticking, any suggestions? besides reading cliffs and KBB 9x like some loons on here (mean that in a good way lol). thanks in advance

i would say watch thinkwell videos they are a good brush up and easier to learn than reading. imo. good luck!

Seriously u have read those books 9 times...

Thinkwell is a good resource... I think it really helps u clearly understand things but it does not prepare u for the all te verbiage... though I just very few of them... but is it true or its only in those few that i saw...

I read AP Cliff notes a few times, reread and took notes on sections I wasn't great at (photosynthesis, plants, taxonomy), and watched a couple thinkwell videos to further clarify anything. I took my DAT yesterday and I thought the section was VERY random...but I ended up with a 24. There is hope! Don't worry.

similar question here...I have my DAT on the 18th and on all my practice tests Bio has been by lowest score.

I have literally read Cliffs AP Bio 4 times and KBB Bio 4 times. I've gotten to the point where I am super bored reading them because I already feel like i know it all. I also made notecards on all of KBB Bio and I know them all.

So what else does one do? I have read posts of people who read nothing but Cliffs AP Bio and got like 26 on Bio...and I have also read posts of people who memorized Cliffs and KBB and said there were maybe one or two relevant questions on the DAT. I feel like I should keep studying while I have the time and because I don't want to suck on Bio but I just don't know what else to do.

I only made an 18 in bio, but I didn't really study that much for it. I read Cliffs one time through and read somebodies notes for Cliffs one time through. That was it. I was harping on my knowledge from ugrad and grad to get me through, but I seriously wished I had reviewed Cliffs once more. The questions that got me were basic taxonomy and ecology concepts and application. When I was reading those questions, I was like "I've seen that in cliffs", but unfortunately I couldn't remember what it meant, or how to apply it b/c I only had seen it once. Seriously, if you remember Cliffs front to back, that should get you around a 20 or 21. Good luck!

Hey, I took my DAT today 😀, Biology was pretty random. My first question was about mushroom life cycle. I had ~2-3 ecology questions and ~1-2 plant questions. No questions from molecular Biology (pretty disappointed). I had ~2-3 questions from genetics.

I would suggest doing problems and getting feedback on where you still need to review. And only review those topics. The real DAT questions are very very basic. It just covers a wide range of topics, so be familiar with the concepts. Randomness is just someone's way of saying they didn't review those sections. You'll do fine.

Bio is just so random (from what I can remember), it's sort of hard to study for it. A trend lately is that they put a lot of ecology on some tests and molecular genetics on others. really, the only way to have an upper hand going in is to have been a bio major. the info they ask is so "off-the-wall" type it's just crazy. i remember about half of the questions on my test were ones i had not studied for when studying for the DAT, but for some odd reason I recalled them from numerous bio courses i took in undergrad. I would most def say to know ecology, taxonomy (although they keep moving away from this), plants, molecular genetics, etc...the stuff you never saw in a course is the stuff they LOVE to test on. Wrong, but that's the way it is I guess. Good luck...whatever you do, don't go into the test really nervous. Trust your instincts and be confident, you can do this!!!

I was little dubious about some of the questions. I have to re-read some of them. I wasn't happy because I studied so much and so many things didn't showed up.

thanks man, i am a bio major so hopefully all those random "cool" stuff my profs would always add in there as a side note will hopefully help haha.

RSD: thanks for the advice I actually told myself i would do that (go over weak stuff and stuff i miss on questions) i think thats most efficient at this point.
