Vet school structure

How do vet schools break down their course load over the years. I know allo and osteopathic medical schools do 2 years science and two years clinical with residency following after.
Is it similar with veterinary schools? How does it work?

Some schools have a 2 year preclinical + 2 year clinical program and others have a 3 year pre-clinical +1 year clinical program, both curriculums usually have the last two years going straight through the summers. A 3-4 year residency followed by board exams would follow after you graduate if you want to specialize in a specific area, or you can choose to do an internship (usually for a year) after graduation, and then begin practicing if you do not want to specialize. Some people opt not to match for an internship at all and just begin working straight out of graduation.

It is best to investigate the schools you are interested in as each school is constructed a bit differently. For an example at Illinois, we have 8 week set of rotations (assigned for 1st, we choose 2nd year), then move into clinics the later half of 3rd year and are in through 4th year. During clinical times we have the option of doing approved externships outside of our hospital, but there are some required rotations we have to complete in house like anesthesia.
