This may be a dumb question, but I was wondering if anyone had any insight on whether or not all veterinary schools have fitness centers/gyms? Are they included with tuition? How is the quality?

Thanks for any help 🙂

Heh seems like a random question. But sure, UMN has a couple of fitness centers, included with the student fee you're required to pay. Lots of machines, there are pools, racquetball courts, tracks, larger courts, etc.

Really?

(But then I'm a sedentary turd who has never voluntarily stepped foot in a gym, so what do I know)

It's good for stress release, and I hate running outside. I'd get a membership somewhere nearby if wherever I end up doesn't have one, but it's something I'm curious about/would be a plus.

Penn as a whole has one. Not included in tuition though which sucks but the membership does go from like August to August so at least you can get your money's worth. The full like $325 includes both fitness centers, the track and the pool. Group classes you have to pay extra for. The one closest to the vet school is pretty nice, but you do have to fight for equipment especially if you go in the evening when the undergrads are done with class.

Purdue has a very young, very diverse rec center about a 15m walk from the school on main campus. Got a rock wall and everything. Membership is included in tuition.

KState rec is across the road from the vet school and free for students. They just remodeled it so it's pretty nice.

The Rec at A&M is on west campus (part of main campus), but I know lots of vet students go over there. Rock wall, dozens of courts, pool, sand volleyball, archery rooms, etc. You can use it as long as you're an enrolled student. They also offer classes for an extra fee.

I don't know that it's been confirmed, but VBEC, the new CVM building, is supposed to have its own rec room. The building itself is going to be totally sweet...too bad us 2018'ers only get to use it for a year. 🙁

Oklahoma State has an amazing fitness center called the Colvin. It is shared with main campus, free to get in, and they offer a lot of free (and some paid) classes.
I never actually go, but many of my classmates get into a routine of going to yoga classes etc. Especially first year first semester, they went to an early class since we started later in the morning that the rest of the classes.

University of Illinois has 2 fitness centers, both state-of-the-art and included in tuition. They offer tons of machines, indoor tracks, a rock wall, indoor and outdoor pools, racquetball and basketball courts, and tons of free classes. Both are approximately a 5 minute drive from the vet school.

NCSU has a gym on main campus that we can use. They just recently put a fitness room together for us on the CVM campus. It is about the size of a hotel fitness center, but it is pretty good (for having equipment donated), we just got a weight machine.

There is an indoor track and the pools as well, it's a nice place. I need access to a pool...

Michigan State has two fitness centers, one being significantly closer to the vet school than the other. I know you have to purchase a membership to use the facilities (last I checked). I never went to one since my apartments always had gyms, so I don't know much about them.

UTK has TRECS, basically the gym for students. Seems like you just need your school ID to use it. It's less than a mile from the CVM building. Haven't been there personally yet but it looks huge and has like everything you could possibly want in a gym/rec center. The are a few other facilities for sports and stuff too.

Ohio State has various facilities that students can use (rec fee is built into normal tuition). Their largest facility is called the RPAC and it's on main campus but not a terrible distance from the vet school. It has all the gym equipment you can imagine, an indoor track, squash courts, an adjacent indoor Olympic sized swimming pool, and lots of classes you can take. There's also a center called ARC that's on the far west campus (at least on the same side of the river as the vet school) that houses a rock climbing wall and some other things. There's an ice skating rink and at least two or three other smaller gyms around campus as well.

At Iowa State, you are automatically billed for the gym facilities. There are two gyms that are located on main campus. They have "free" fitness classes available as well. I feel like nearly all the vet schools in the US have fitness facilities available for use and it is included in your tuition.

Now to find the time to actually go to the gym. . . hahah
