Sorry for asking this question but is the only allied veterinary field, lower than veterinarian, a veterinary technician or assistant? Is the salary of a technician really only ~$30,000?

As far as I know, that sounds about right. Certified veterinary technicians will generally make a bit more than a veterinary assistant. A lot of the difference between those two jobs is dependent on state laws and regulations, though.

It depends on area you are working in and if you are licensed, registered, or certified. (It's different terminology for each state). If you work for a specialty practice or teach you could potentially make more. If you work for a general practice you could make less and even then that depends on region.

No matter what area/specialty you're working in, you certainly aren't going to be getting rich as a vet tech though.

I'm not really sure what you mean by "veterinary allied" fields. Do you mean jobs working alongside veterinarians? There are quite a few if you're willing to look beyond general practice. Within general practice though you'll just have your standard support staff - assistant, tech, receptionist, hospital manager, etc.
