Veterinary Pharmacy Rotation (P4 externship)

Hey everybody -

There are a lot of schools that have both a pharmacy school and a veterinary school on their campus. However, I've had trouble finding out whether any of these schools offer a veterinary pharmacy rotation during the last year. So far, I know that WSU (Washington State) doesn't have this type of rotation, but schools like Purdue and The Ohio State haven't gotten back to me.

Does anybody have any info?

Oh, and I heard that Creighton has a 2-credit distance learning vet pharmacy course, but at over $700/credit it's not something that I can afford.

I'm not aware of any. But I do know there are compounding pharmacies specializing and Veterinary Medications. Perhaps you can rotate through a pharmacy like that.

University of Colorado has a rotation at the Colorado State vet school. Highly recommend it, it has the been the best rotation of my P4 year.

My school looked into the Creighton program and we found out that you can get a 25% discount if you can get about 5 students from your school to sign up.

Oops, one more thing. It's a class not a rotation.

University of Kansas has a veterinary rotation at Kansas State University. It is very competative. Only 6 to 8 people will get it out of a class of 110.

UF sometimes offers this rotation. It wasn't on the list for my year, but it was there the year before.

You might want to contact Doug Kemp, PharmD, DICVP at the CVM at Georgia. If they don't have one he could probably hook you up with someone who does.

You guys are awesome. 👍 👍 I'm not 100% sure if I'll do a vet pharm rotation, but it's good to have the info. I mostly asked because I'm giving a presentation on vet pharmacy at the end of the month.

If anyone else knows of any other vet pharm experience rotations or classes, keep posting!

I know that Campbell University has a vet rotation. I am assuming it uses the advantage of being somewhat never NC state that has a vet school.

I know UNC has a vet rotation. Or at least they used to.

The Harrison School of Pharmacy (at Auburn University) often sends students to Auburn's College of Vet Med, which has 2 large pharmacies and several pharmacists at any given time. I don't have any of the details however.... I'm sure it'd be easy enough to find out (www.pharmacy.auburn.edu).
