So, I tried using Viciviper's strategy except there is a problem with it... everytime I saw a keyword from a question, I d go back to that question to answer it but when I got there, the passage would have scrolled back up to para1, disorienting me , so I lost my place in the passage and would have to reskim to find that same keyword..

Any way to overcome this? and is this what happens in the real DAT RC, that every time you press next, the passage automatically resets?( unlike in Topscore)??
Thanks in advance

No the real DAT resets the passage back to the top too.
I guess the only thing you could do is remember which paragraph you are at since they are numbered.

Hmm yea I think that's what Ill have to end up doing if I use this strategy...it feels so risky but the scores come out the same as SnD with it...

Glad to hear more people are looking at my strategy!

Yes, this is a problem I came up against, but I think I solved it by quickly jotting down the paragraph number where I was, and so I could instantly scroll back to just that position. I'm pretty sure the paragraphs are numbered right? Ugh, it's been a while!

thats one of the things after you do like your 9th passage, you just make a special place in your brain for that paragraph number. I just consciously note it down (don't really need to write it since you just need to remember it for like 3 seconds)

Quick uestion about this: do you read the WHOLE paragraph with the said keyword first, and then answer all the questions or do you find the keyword, skip to the uestion and then read the paragraph?

I just started using this strategy yesterday and I find it to be helpful. I write down the keywords from each question (if it is not tone based) and then I go back and look for those keywords. Every time I come across a keyword, I can just look at my outline and determine which question(s) jump to straight. IMO it saves time reading the questions over and over again.
Has anyone tried this strategy by writing down the keywords down first instead of just retaining them in your head and reading the questions every time you come across a keyword? In your suggestion, is that a waste of time?

Another question: When reading through the questions first looking for the key term, are we suppose to read all the answer choices with the questions at the first attempt or just focus on key term and read the answer choices once we have found the key term in the paragraph?

Please advise,

Thanks

i did what you did. i dont think it a waste of time but i havent tried the strategy of not writing anything down

Wow, glad to hear my strategy is gaining such popularity! It makes me feel better after totally bombing a micro test today, haha.

Anyways, when I came across a keyword that sent up a spark in the paragraph, I would reread the sentence before, the sentence with the word, and the sentence after, just really quickly. After that 3 sentence block, the context of that keyword is normally lost, and a question won't normally refer to something outside of that.

Also, concerning reading the answer choices, for the questions, that's really not what I focused on, because they'll often put in distracter in the choices, and you don't want that to be tripping your spidey senses when you come across the distracter keyword.

And I like the idea of writing down the keywords with the question, that can streamline the question finding process - just be careful that it doesn't take up too much of your time.

Any other questions? 🙂
