Hey guys, does anyone have an upcoming interview at Temple? I think it's the strangest thing that they do a video interview. What do you guys think about it? Does anyone have any more information about it? There's some threads but not really a lot of recent feedback about the process.

I have one coming up and I just practice video taped myself...and it was NOT pretty haha. I never realized the odd faces I make when I'm talking...plus it took me 8 minutes to say everything when it's only supposed to be 3! Any suggestions?

Eight minutes? Remember those people on the receiving end. They get to watch hundreds of these videos. They probably trimmed it down from five to three for good reason. Hit the points they want you to hit, of course, but keep this in mind: It's more about how you're saying it than what you're saying.

I just had my Temple interview yesterday. I thought it was interesting how they mount an itouch on a tripod to film you, and it actually helped relax me seeing that haha. But anyway, you have a person in the room with you that sets it all up. He was really nice and held up green pieces of paper at 2 min, 1 min, and 30 seconds. You're allowed to bring in notes with you, and you have a piece of paper with the questions highlighted in front of you. I didnt bring any notes with me because I didn't want to sound scripted and fake. Originally when I practiced I was going over the 3 minutes but for some reason when I did it I was around 20 seconds under. I think I still made my points though. One other girl that was in my interview actually sang during part of hers. If you have some crazy talent, you're encouraged to do it. I was fine with just answering the questions though haha.

When you first get in the room just sit down and take a couple breaths and you will be fine. I told my story and smiled a lot so hopefully I'll get into Temple! Haha

Yes, I heard the same. Most people say that its better that way since theres not as much pressure as having to answer questions to people right across from you. If you practice it should be as easy if not easier than a conventional interview.

It really isn't that bad. Plus in the confirmation email they send you the questions you should guide your statement by. Why dentistry, why temple, what makes you stand out from other applicants etc. You don't have to strictly follow it but just say things that are not straight out from your personal statement and try to be original. It's really not that bad; it was very unique when you think about it...given that everyone else makes you talk to someone. 3 minutes go by pretty quick so make sure you have a speech that lasts around that. I finished mine with 30 seconds left and that's fine. Try to sound natural and not like you memorized a paragraph and you are just reciting it back to the camera word-for-word.

so you know in advance what the questions are? Wow ..so weird that they can review it later, re-play if interesting, rewind to make fun of weird faces, or fast forward if not interesting enough..I don't like it!!

It's just hitting the 3 main generic questions you'll get at pretty much every school. I was told admission/committee people can just view them whenever (like they're put on a server somewhere). Put yourself in their shoes: hundreds of clips almost all saying the same sort of thing. Then you have a girl singing, or someone being funny (a little bit anyway), or speaking in multiple languages. This isn't show and tell or talent night, but it's to your benefit to not be all sorts of serious. They want personality.

lol I'm the girl that sang! haha PM so we can keep in touch 😀

haha wow thats crazy! I dont think I'm up for singing but you guys are right, I should just wing it and show a little bit of personality. I originally wrote down a manuscript and tried to recite it but now re-watching the video it doesn't look natural (I paused a couple times cuz I forgot what was next lol). Guess it's lights camera action and I gotta be ready!
