I am just curious about how many Viet people on here are applying to med schools. It would be great if you dont mind sharing a summary of your application status so far. It's about time for Viet pre-med SDNers to unite 😛 . I'd go first:
Kelvin81: accepted: Rush, Creighton, NYMC, UCLA(will attend)

hey chipmunk73, thanks for your words, I m crossing my fingers for you... really, I would like to have a lot of viet classmates at UCLA. Lat year they accepted like 10 viet students. When did u interview and did you hear back from them yet?

I don't know if you read your terms of service or not, but all Vietnamese females aged 19-23 are required to post their photos on SDN. Send me a PM when you've done so.

Thanks.

since when my thread turns into a pimp site without my approval? They need to send the pics to me first for censorship reason. LOL 😀

Hola!
Freshman, University of Wisconsin- Madison

wow, speaking of dedicated pre-meds, yay for young viet pre-meds who already start working on paving their path to med school.
How is UW? I got an interview there but turned it out. I got weary after 10 interviews. Flying around sucks!!!!!!!!.

By the way, I guess many of you guys were born here in the U.S. but who else is also FOB like I am? , I came here in 2001 straight from Vietnam (Saigon).

Are you sure your Bun Bo Hue is any good? I'm a Hue girl so I guess I'll be the best judge of that. hehehe.

I interviewed early december at UCLA...but still no word. I'm still glad i wasn't in the last two batches though since they were all waitlist/rejection. No news is good news at this point.

I was also not born in the states but i'm not as fobby. I came here in 1991. You're pretty good for a fob though. = P What a way to represent.

hehehe, my bun bo Hue is good. I hope you will get accepted to UCLA so that you can try my cooking talent LOL. I learn how to cook bun bo from my mom.
Yeah, no news is good at this point. I m sure a new wave of acceptances is sent out soon. Best of luck chipmunk!:luck: :luck: :luck:

Thank you. I have to admit it's not easy though, especially the language barrier.

So am I safe in assuming that any flame wars in here will involve copious amounts of jellied aviation fuel?

BTW: I am in no way trying to be hateful towards Vietnamese, I simply couldn't pass up a chance to make an Apocalypse Now reference.

I'm a current bruin who was born in vietnam and will be applying this summer. UCLA is one of my top picks so it's nice to hear that they are friendly towards picking vietnamese since some of my friends are also extremely competitive applicants.

this is dj dizzle holding it down for viet nation in the midwest.

dj dizzle: IU, MSU, WSU

ps. non of y'all can hold a stick to my ma's bun bo 🙄

Ugh, I live in Charlottesville, VA, and I haven't had pho in 3 months. I'm from Northern Virginia, which is probably third only to CA and TX in terms of concentration of Vietnamese immigrants. There are about 5 or 6 pho places within a 5-minute drive from my house. Basically nothing in Charlottesville. It makes me sad. However, what I'm really craving right now is banh cuon. [sigh]

I've been accepted to a few places, but honestly, I have no clue where I'm going next year.

hahaha, of course mom's food is always the best to every son. Where are you going to attend this Fall? I m still waiting to hear back from IU post-interview but I m sure at this point it will be either rejected or waitlisted.

hi there, I live in Orange County where Viet people is considered one of the largest minority groups here. There are some good banh cuon restaurants around. I like banh cuon too. Anyways, you have a very solid application profile and apparently you are having some tough decisions to make on where to go this Fall. No matter what BRAVO to another successful viet pre-med!👍

How do u guys look at each other's profile? Is there a button i'm not seeing?

Agreed. I know I will come back to OC to practice hehehe. SD is really nice too. I have lots of friends down there. Argh, guess what I m doing right now? I m spending my springbreak studying for a human anatomy exam next week. We're on "muscle" right now. What a bummer.🙁

chipmunk, good luck on UCLA. Hope you hear good news soon! i think i'm waiting on my rejection letter cuz they just requested my 2nd last month...it's too late in the game...anyhow, once a bruin, lifetime a bruin 😀

hahaha, it 's good enough to make you crave for another bowl.
If you havent got your rejection letter yet, you're still in the game. UCLA interviews till mid april so there's still hope. I was interviewed on Oct. 12th and they called me on Oct. 10th to schedule for that interview. I guess they did that because they knew I lived in the OC.
To chipmunk, good luckkkkkkkkk. I truly hope you will get in. 🙂

Come on, there must be more Viet SDNers. Come on out guys!!!!

I'm originally from Nor Cal, but I'm in the east coast right now. Will be an m1 next year.

FOB here too man, we need to stick together. I came over in 93 so I've been here awhile. How was the language barrier for you in terms of academics? Was it hard to make the adjustment to a new place?

lol i knew it was only a matter of time before something like this popped up in preallo.

count me in too.

Congrats on getting into medical school!!! I'm a second year med student, so if any of you fellow viets have any question about life in med school or stuff ask away. I'm a FOB too came here when I was eight, it's good to see fellow FOBers' doing well.

Which med school r you going to marr? Hehehe, I came here when I was almost 20, I used to wish I could have been here when I was 10 or so...

Hey Mystik, I agree with you that we need to stick together. It seems like among asians, Indian and Chinese pre-meds are dominating medicine hehehe.
When I first came here, it was super hard to understand anything in english. I went to an adult education center to learn english for free for a short time before taking classes at a community college. The classes I was scared of the most was English 100 and 101. Oh boy, the professors really had fun time picking on me to answer their questions. In my first Gchem class, I couldnt understand much what the professor said, so the book was my teacher for half of the semester before I could adjust myself. Everything was so new to me. In restrospect, I was amazed at how far I have gone. And now I m going to face a tougher challenge :med school. It's just like I just got off the roller coaster at Disneyland and now I m getting on another one at Magic Mountain (higher and scarier) hehehe. anyways, that's my story. 😛

So does that mean you're about 26 years old Kelvin81? Hehehe I guess that's what 81 means. **cough**old**cough** Hehehe I'm just teasing. So where did everyone go for undergrad? I graduated from UCSD.

haha, nice thread. Im a junior at ucsd, bout to take mcats. UCSD is one competitive school

Welcome to the club DaiCa86. Yeah a lot of people at UCSD are pre-health so it can be competitive but i've never experienced any dirty competition though. Ewww mcat. Good luck!!! Then after the mcat you get to apply to med school and then you get to wait forever for schools like me. So i advice you to apply early! Get that application out on june 1st if you can hehehe and not august something.

Ahem... I wonder if you were born in 73 chipmunk LOL😀 . And yes I'll be 26 by the time I m matriculated to UCLA this Fall. I went to UCI for undergrad. I had an interesting story about UCSD though. When I applied to transfer, UCSD was my top choice 'cause I wanted to live away from home but at the same time, I didnt wanna live too far. I also play A LOT of beach volleyball ( ladies, it means something wink wink 😛 ) So UCSD was perfect. But then I got in at UCI, UCLA, UCSF. I didnt hear back from UCSD until later with a rejection. So I called UCSD and asked themGuess what, someone screwed up my application by calculating the total number of transfer credits wrong. They apologized and sent me a letter of acceptance later but when I asked them about scholarship, they said they already gave out all scholaships. Considering the fact that I got scholarships from all other 3 UC's, I decided not to go to UCSD and chose UCI. UCI was my last choice at the time but the full ride did change my mind hehehe. Free education rocks.😀 It's not gonna happen with medical schools though 😡

Welcome Daica86 (although I hope you don't belong to any gangs) .
Good luck on the MCAT. All UC's are competitive IMO.

All this waiting around to hear back from UCLA makes me feel like I was born in 73. But no...i wasnt born in 73. You still have a few years ahead of me Kelvin. Aren't you glad you're winning? = P

Hey, you got into UCLA? Lucky! ummm, I mean... brainiac! I wish they accepted me. Maybe I'll get in off the waitlist.
