I am using interfolio, but at least one school that I am applying to (university of wisconsin) says:
We use the VirtualEval system if you plan on having your letters of recommendation sent through them.

Does this mean that I need to use Virtual Evals in ADDITON to interfolio? or can I just send my letters via interfolio electronically or by mail?😕😕😕

VirtualEvals is used by undergraduate pre-health committees to transmit letters, so you as an individual wouldn't need to use it. If the school isn't set up to receive Interfolio electronically, they can certainly receive them by mail.

My undergrad school doesnt do committee letters (45,000 students and a lot of premeds), but glad to know that I can always send them by mail. Thx.

Just a quick follow up - University of Wisconsin Medical School is an Interfolio electronic receiving institution. Many schools use both Interfolio and VirtualEvals to accept letters of recommendation electronically. If a school is not an electronic receiving institution, Interfolio will mail the deliveries.

My school's premed committee does it through VirtualEvals... but they are accepting addressed envelopes for schools that don't use the system. You may want to check, that'll save you the trouble of requesting the paper copies from each prof... the premed committee will print, seal and send...

I actually had a question about Interfolio that hopefully someone can help me with. I have a committee letter that goes along with individual letters from my professors. My school's pre-med advisor sends out the letters to the schools, but apparently takes 2-3 weeks to do so. I know that Interfolio would be faster, but can I only use it for individual letters? Or could I have my pre-med advisor send the packet of letters and the committee letter to Interfolio and send schools the packet of letters through Interfolio? I'm just not sure if its supposed to only be used for people who have individual letters or if it can be used for a committed letter plus individual letters.

Thought I'd bump this up so more people could see my question

IF your advisor has an account (free) on interfolio, then all u would need to do is make a spot for each of your lor on interfolio, and the advisor would be able to scan and upload each letter. Then in the end they just upload a cover letter on interfolio as well, and then you're good to go. you can pick and choose which lor to use and just make sure you mail the cover letter as the first page, and it will be counted as a committe letter. Now, if your advisor uploads it all as one document, then you wont be able to mix and match, but interfolio can still be used. You just need to communicate with your advisor as to what your username is on interfolio, and what name you gave to the document(s) you want your advisor to upload. Then your advisor can jus login to her account, and just add the document to your account under the document name you told her.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, my advisor doesn't have an interfolio account. So I think he'd have to send them to interfolio using snail mail. So would I still be able to pick and choose from the letters and just always make sure the cover letter/committee letter is included first in the packet sent to the school?

So has anybody used Interfolio when they had a committee letter and their advisor didn't have an interfolio account?

it's easy and it's free to set up an interfolio writer account. if your advisor is having trouble, just write up some clear and concise directions for him/her. all you need is an email address and 5 minutes.
