Virtual interviews?

With the ongoing COVID situation, has anybody heard anything about whether interviews this fall will be held virtually?

I believe most schools (if not all) will be having virtual interviews.

What do you guys think about this virtual interview situation? Do you think it'll be more difficult to make a good first impression? I really don't know what to think or what to expect with a virtual interview, and potential technical glitches like the wifi going out, or hardware issues that could come with it make me nervous. Anyone else?

It’ll hurt people who interview well and will benefit people who don’t interview as well in person.

it will hurt all applicants as you won’t really get a feel for the school, the students or the area. They’ll hopefully have a prerecorded tour of the facility, maybe they’ll offer some sessions with only students/interviewees to get student feedback without some admin in the room.

it will benefit everyone in that we’ll all save tons of money on travel/hotel expenses this cycle.

I argue that it won't hurt you if you interview well. You can still interview well over virtual.

It hurts you not in the sense that you will do worse, but in the sense that others may interview better in a virtual setting than in person. You’ll still do fine if you interview well, but maybe your exceptional interpersonal skills won’t be as noticeable since John Pre-Dental is more comfortable talking to a screen than face to face. It’s also much harder to connect over a screen than in person IMO, and you have fewer body language cues to help read certain situations.

I’m glad it’s at least a video call. If it was a phone call instead the lack of body language would be so hard to deal with.
I feel really bad for applicants who might not have a good environment to be able to interview in (noisy surroundings, poor internet connection, etc.) Pretty thankful that I live in a quiet apartment with good wifi.
Also, I guess it'll be pretty nice to not even have to wear shoes, or potentially not even pants during the interview That'd be pretty ballsy though
