I am an IMG from South Africa, who is applying for an Anesthesiology residency position, and I am hoping to get an H1B visa. Am I correct in assuming that I will need to get my internship program to sponsor the H1B visa, and then the year after, the Anesthesiology program will have to take over sponsorship of the visa? (the Anesthesiology program that I want to go to have indicated that they only sponsor J1 visas...I was hoping that if all the processing was done in my internship year, they would agree to take over sponsorship). I also plan to do a fellowship...is it true that it is difficult to get a fellowship with an H1B visa? What would be the best thing to do in my situation? I would REALLY appreciate some advice!!
