So ... I'm planning on applying this cycle ... however I think I'm in a predicament ...

My current status is an international student. However, my family is in the process of obtaining a green card and have been accepted for an interview. This will probably occur around mid to late June. Once I come back to the United States, I will then "officially" have my green card.

Unfortunately, it seem as if that according to AMCAS, if I want to submit my application early, I would have to submit it as an international student, since I don't officially have my green card. Also, I don't receive permanent resident status until I come back to the States after my interview. However, I don't know exactly when I will come back to the US. I was hoping to by late June/early July, but there's a possibility I won't be able to until late July/mid August. This means I can't apply as a permanent resident until that time.

I really want to apply as soon as possible ... however, it seems as if I can only apply once applications open as an international student and only as a permanent resident until late July/mid August. Of course I know this will effect my verification times as well as possibly affect my application...

So .... is it worth risking and applying as an international student in June and just sending an update letter in August? Or submitting in August as a permanent resident? Or waiting a whole year and applying next year's cycle?

Yes ... quite a predicament, huh?

I didn't get my my green card until mid August and waited a year but mostly to retake the MCAT. There is one school that I didn't apply to until September and got in. Obviously try to get the green card as soon as possible but if your numbers are strong enough I think end of August complete can't hurt you.

Once you put that international status on AMCAS, I'm not sure how difficult it is to get that changed. How confident are you with your MCAT/GPAs/extracurricula? If it's really good and you don't plan to attend school that won't look at international people you might as well apply.

If I were you I would try to get to the states as soon as possible, get that golden green card and apply right away.

By the way, have you finished the secondaries from last year?

I haven't done secondaries. This is my first year applying. Iono ... Even if I knocked my MCAT out of the water (took it on the 12th), I really want to apply asap due to my GPA being more on the average side. Even if I do have great stats, applying in July/August won't get me verified until late August/September ... I could work on secondaries during the summer as people post them on the boards ... but bleh ... T.T
