Some of my previous "negativity" on this forum stemmed from the frustration of seeing many students being unaware of so many the issues that is going to ultimately affect their professional happiness.
To be fair, most of those issues are things that most students wouldn't even have the foresight to think about or ask about. I know that I sure didn't and I like to think that I was pretty engaged in the planning and development of my career. I was never one of those people that just "coasted" through school.
But if anyone ever takes the time to reread any of my old postings they will see that never once have I ever discouraged anyone from applying or did I ever once say that optometry is a bad career choice. It is simply a career choice that requires a lot more careful planning to achieve the goal that I think most of you are working towards and dreaming about.
I volunteered as the "mentor" because I did a lot of that type of work during my sebatical from optometry and I think I'm good at it. Rest assured, you will get only helpful and thoughtful advice and/or criticism from me. 👍

as i said before, KHE is one of the few doctors that actually look out for the students on this forum. there is no doubt that KHE would be the best candidate for mentoring prospective optometry students
1. Is the field oversaturated as badly as the OD's on the internet say or not at all like the Schools and AOA say ?
2. Will opticians get refracting rights in USA as in Canada ?
3. Health care reform is inevitable ...what impact, good or bad will this have on Optometry ?
4. Lasiks seems more like a procedure than traditional cutting surgery , do you think Optemetry should have Lasiks procedures within its scope of practice ?
5. What are the specialty areas and their advantages that you would reccommend to new student ?
I am an entering 1st year student and appreciate your time.
