Hello everyone. Some classmates and I were wondering when it is a good time to start visiting programs we are interested in for residency? Some guest speakers have said to start as early as first year while others have said to hold off until 3rd year. Just wanted to hear everyone's opinion and recommendations? TIA!

Honestly, visiting programs does not matter during your first 3 years of podiatry school.

The best time to visit other programs is during 4th year before interviews. Some programs will not remember you if start early because they are mostly focusing on training their residents and selecting 4th year students to become their residents.

If you really want to visit a program for 3rd year, just to get a better idea of how externships work, then go right ahead but in a long time, it is not needed.

You will have no idea what to look for as a 1st or 2nd year. Maybe 3rd year or tail end after you get bored with all of your school institution rotations.
