Can someone help me out here? I vaguely remember being taught in med school that there is a reflexive response that attracts the eye towards light when shone in a dark room. Is there a name for this reflex? Is it a reflex? or a learned response?

Thanks for your help!:D

I'm not aware of there being a name for it (doesn't mean there isn't one). It's definitely an inate trait, not learned. It's cross-cultural. Newborns will do it. Other primates do it (I believe all mammals, but I don't remember that for sure off the top of my head).

It gets even more complex; if there's a photo, your eye will go first to any faces, then to any words, then to any bright areas. It doesn't matter if none of these things are the actual object of interest in the picture.
