So I understand that 1 mol of an ideal gas occupies 22.4 L at STP. But I also read that a gas occupies the volume of its container. So lets say u put 1 mol of an ideal gas in a 50 L container. Will the volume of the gas continue to be 22.4 L?

If you increase the volume of the container without increasing the moles of the gas then the pressure in the container will be lowered. Consequently, the gas molecules move farther apart from each other. To answer your question one mole of gas will occupy the 50L container but at a lower pressure.
