SCC stands for Senior Centered Care...

I have two options: volunteering at the emergency department or senior centered care. I figured that I would get more patient contact in the SCC department and would have more meaningful work, but then again, many people told me to volunteer at the ED. What do you guys think? Which one should I go with?

personally, I would go with either ED, ICU or CCU

I don't think I can handle SCC which is almost similar in work with Recovery Room in which you do nothing but wash linens, and prepare beds and take a lot of bull crap from old whiny people !!!

Really, think about it. I also work in customer service and I know how annoying people can get !!

If you even have to ask, I see geriatrics in your future...

If by meaningful work, you mean wiping asses, then go for it. But lettuce be reality. The only reason we volunteer in hospitals (aside from it fulfilling an EC requirement for applications) is for the chance to see cool things and potentially follow/watch doctors in action. No one really goes there to act as caregivers for old people or take orders from nurses (ok maybe a few people do.)

So I ask you. Do you want to potentially see traumas or do you want to potentially have to wipe the ass of Mr. Jones 4x a day, everyday you're there?

The volunteer coordinator used the phrase "meaningful work". I guess I was fooled by him then. 😀

Come to think of it, you are right. I guess I'll go with the ER department. Thanks.
