If you are already planning on doing a dental volunteering project this coming July, should you include it on you application even though it is still in the future? I want to submit later today, but cannot decide if I should include it or not. Any advice?

I personally would not include it because you haven't done it. You are placing things on your application that you have done up to this point. In an event like this, what would happen if you got sick and couldn't attend but you put it on your application. It's probably not a good idea.

I don't want to derail the thread but I don't think it's necessary to make a new topic for a one liner question regarding the same topic.

I currently volunteer for Curse Gaming (I mod two of their websites) and I've put in easily over 500+ hours thus far (1.5 years planning on doing it up until admissions) and I'm wondering how viable this would be as a volunteer experience for my dental school application.

Do you think its relevant to dentistry or dental school?

While I do not believe in the slightest that they are anywhere near relevant to either, I've read on several school sites that they urge that applicants have volunteer experience outside the scope of Dentistry which is why I ask.

Also can you use high school volunteer work??😀

Definately include this in your app.

It doesn't replace dental volunteering but it makes you a more well-rounded applicant.

I completely agree with RDH... def put this on your app. Just the fact that your volunteering shows that you care about humanity and not just yourself. To some schools thats a big deal, I know ASDOH wants/requires like a minimum of 200-400 hours of service, excluding shadowing. Well roundedness never hurt anyone these days... also it could possibly be a topic that is brought up in your interview. 😀

If your only duties are modding the forums, I don't think I would put it down. Yeah, it's technically volunteer work but it's not really a service to the community in general. However, if you're actually going into their headquarters and formally volunteering in their office, then it is something to put down for sure.

I am 30 and have decided to go back to school this fall and begin taking DS prereqs, start shadowing, and volunteering so I can apply next cycle. In college I did a huge amount of volunteer work for the MS Society. Is that something I can/should put down on my application even though it was a few years ago?
