Volunteer Hours as Shadowing

Hey all!

I know a lot of people wonder if their shadowing hours count as volunteer hours, but I was wondering the opposite. I have a couple volunteer opportunities, but I haven't really been able to shadow and I feel like it's an inefficient use of my time if I can be out there DOING things. However, there are some schools that require a pretty significant amount of shadowing hours.

I was in your same boat. It's very hard for me to shadow while working full-time, so I ended up counting any unpaid hours I assisted in a clinic as shadowing instead of volunteering. You have discretion in how you assign your time, so do what feels best and most honest to you.

I counted my unpaid hours working with dental assistants and dental hygienists as both volunteering and shadowing!
