Volunteer Hours

Are we allowed to mention volunteering hours from high school on our aacom application?

If you think they are so important that they make you the candidate that you are then yea. However, as a rule of thumb they say mention all EC's after high school. But then again if you think they are important enough to be mentioned, then I would.

It depends. Lets say you started volunteering at a hospital in junior year of high school. Did you stay there consistently since then? If not, then no.

I had about 180 hours in high school during my first 2.5 years but since I didn't volunteer at the same place for my last 1.5 years in high school, it isn't applicable.

thanks for the responses guys. I will only mention the ones that continued into college.

Yes

Makes sense... I always wondered why non-trads could stack up their ECs with things before their undergrad while trads could not do the same.

Because non-trads, unlike professional students (which is what you are when you're a full-time undergrad) have these distractions like jobs, children, homes, etc that your typical 18-22 year old doesn't have to worry about.

If you don't have anything better form undergrad/real-world, then sure include it if you're desperate.

Yea though I meant that it's reasonable for a trad student to put down major ECs (ex. long term volunteering committment) from pre-undergrad time. That experience could have led to the development of many positive qualities in the individual. Based on your last response, I think all adcoms/you agree anyway.

Keep in mind that pre-UG experiences would not suffice for a lack of later ones. My 2 cents. It's also very, very rare that I see someone include volunteer work from pre-UG years on their app.
