With the increasing Kenyan population which is approximately 27 million with a growth rate of
3.8%, the Ministry of health is committed to ensuring that the health services are accessible, affordable, and effective and promote the well-being of individuals to improve and sustain the health of the Kenyan population.

To the above objective the Ministry has produced a health policy framework which provides reform initiatives for the future development of the health sector.

It wants to reform the health sector in the following ways by:

  • Decentralization of the planning, management, resource creation and control and use at various levels.
  • Promotion of communities and institutions involved in providing health care services to be self reliant and sustainable so that the Ministry of health will spend more money on PHC approach which will be cheaper and more cost effective.
  • Also they will increase the share of curative services delivery by NGO's.
  • Human resource development so that competent health personnel asses the present and future health needs through problem identification, planning and management of services at different levels.

These policies boil down to delivering health services efficiently and effectively to the community.

Our placement is located in Nyamira District hospital.

The Hospital
