Soo, I am applying this coming cycle, and I was thinking about interview questions, specifically related to volunteering...

I enjoyed time workign with United Way infinitely more than the paperwork/escort stuff you do in the hospital...I didn't feel like I got anything out of hospital volunteering other than something to put on my app.

On the other hand, United Way volunteering is just...better...I have more fun doing it, I like meeting the people who work there, and I know I'll continue that up until I actually go to med school...Now in interviews, should I really say that I liked nonclinical better than clinical? I don't want adcoms to think I'm not committed to medicine, but hospital volunteering is just bland, and if asked about volunteering, I can come up with a much better experience if I focus on non-clinical work...

Any ideas, or should I just say clinical volunteering was far and away the best thing I've ever done? Thanks for any advice, I know interviews are a looooong way away, but I'm curious...

Whatever you, dont lie and don't bullsh*t. Think of this possible scenario

You: Oh yes I love volunteering in the hospital, its such an amazing experience!

Interviewer: Thats great, so tell me about something interesting that happened while you volunteered, or what you enjoyed most about it?

You: Um......well....

Or if you just happen to be a good liar and can think of some elaborate story on the spot........ but i wouldnt recommend it b/c chances are they will see through it. You'll come off far better if you are genuine and talking about the things you actually enjoy. I told my interviewers flat out that I didnt really enjoy volunteering in the hospitals b/c the things you can do or some limited and quite frankly uninteresting. For that reason, after trying the hopsital thing for a little while, I sought volunteer opportunities elsewhere (still related to medicine) which I actualy enjoyed going to and I was able to talk about them much easier come applicaiton time.
