hey guys,

I am on winter break from college and will return to school on the 30th. I am currently volunteering in the ICU department at my local hospital and it is just spectacular getting the opportunity to interact with patients first hand. I have a question though, when applying to medical school, do I have to obtain a certificate from the hospital validating my volunteering experience?... thank you

No, you don't. Schools may ask for contact information for the program director or something, but just saying you did something is usually sufficient.

Agree with post above. Most likely you will have to write down contact info so if they call, they can verify it. I would assume you would write down the volunteer coordinator's contact info.

On several of my AMCAS activities, there either wasn't a contact person, or the person that would have contacted had since switched jobs. Don't worry about it too much. If you have some info, put it down, if you don't, don't sweat it. AS long as you're not claiming 50000 hours, they won't care.
