I'm trying to do lots of community service/volunteering this summer.

now my question is what looks better?? do community services at hospitals or churches look better?

or something i personally enjoy more like being an assistant soccer coach for kids? I'm playing soccer for my university and have good connections to get volunteer stuff.

if i would do the assistant soccer coaching, would that be considered volunteering rather than community service? and what do the dental schools wanna see; community service or volunteering?

lots of questions but hope to get them all answered.

thanks guys

Go for the soccer. Too many people spend their time trying to do what they think admissions wants to see. Be involved in your community with things you enjoy and are passionate about. You're out there helping the kids. You know soccer. You play on the collegiate level; you're acting as a mentor to them.

There's not really a difference between community service and volunteering.

do what you enjoy. I think the adcoms really liked seeing my 200+ hours acting as Assistant Scoutmaster for the local Boy Scout Troop.

They asked about it, not my shadowing.

Be careful. Just don't let it affect your GPA. My GPA is slightly below the acceptance average and I've been involved in coaching high school basketball, boy scouts of america, volunteering at free dental clinics, foreign mission health clinics, church service and I have thousands of hours but Still I get pegged for being a decimal off from average. Oh did I forget the 3 jobs and wife and kids? Really imo I don't think they care they just want something there, similar to research. As long as somehting is there and that portion isn't blank.

The way I see it, you are helping your community and you are doing something you enjoy. That sounds good to me! I might even want to do something like that haha

If soccer is your passion, then coach soccer.

I got everything set up and i will start tomorrow already. Will I need to show proof that I volunteered there when I turn my applications in? or will i simply just list the volunteer work and hours on my resume?
