This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I don't think they care enough to verify everyone. Perhaps if your academic honesty was already in question, they might dig deeper. However, its best to be honest.

do schools actually verify volunteer hours? I'm concerned because I realized that secondaries ask for this information too. Granted I only put down 80 hours which isn't very much... (I didn't actually do 80)

I have a 3.8 and just got 25AA/27TS on the DAT, maybe they just won't care?

Why did you fudge your numbers? Why weren't you honest?

I doubt that they will actually go and check on your volunteer hours, but I suppose it is possible, but as the poster above said, they'd probably only do it if they had reason to.

I worked at a video store, and I took the brochures for how to donate to the Sichuan Earthquake with me to give away with each sale. I volunteered for the group, of course, but not nearly as much time. I talked to the people about the quake every time I gave away a pamphlet, how to donate, etc.

I included the hours when I gave away brochures at the store during the 2 months I did this. I did about 30 hours of volunteering over the first 2 weeks and added about 90 over 2 months (I worked about 30 hours a week, so 30/~240 hours).

I was going to lower the hours, but I submitted already <____<. Wonder if this is an issue.

In retropsect, I should have... but I dunno, i felt so lame putting down 10 hours. I will do lots of volunteer work in this year off I have...

I dont want to sound rude or make any judgments, but why didn't you both actually go out and volunteer? I am assuming that you knew this was on the application so I am not sure why you feel the need to put down the things you did?

That said you can always send updates to schools on actual volunteer work that you are doing now, so I would suggest that. Especially for the interview process, I find it hard to believe that an admin will be impressed with you explaining how you handed out a brochure while getting paid for working another job.

I devoted my time to speaking with every person that came into the store, and handed out pamphlets, explaining how they could donate, the severity of the situation, etc, when I could not have done so.

For the actual volunteering I just went on the streets to pass out pamphlets anyways.

I did not have a lot of time, since well, I do work full time while taking ~12ish credits.

Negative. You devoted the store's time to this little scam. Trying to call what you did volunteering is absolute rubbish and you know it.

There's no way a dental school is going to have enough time to research each applicant's volunteer hours. Just be prepared to talk about what you've stated you've done when interview time comes.
