How does this work? I'd like to volunteer in an animal welfare charity in my area, to help me decide about my future career plan, and so I could do something in my spare time.

The thing is, I have no idea about anything so I'm not sure if this is a good idea. I'm concerned about the work nature and the social aspect of it.

I'll pick adoption committee and animal fostering in my top two priorities. I called this morning and there are openings close to my area.

Can you give me any idea regarding the responsibilities?

I'm also fairly new here and I don't know anyone besides some distant relatives. Will this be a drawback? I'm just worried that I'll be entering a community where everyone knows everyonee. 🙁

In regards to your questions about the work and social aspect of it, those are questions best answered by the supervisors/hiring staff of the specific places you applied to work. If you get an interview or even an informal meet and greet with those people, take that time to ask what the work environment is like, what duties/responsibilities you'll have, etc.

In regards to the social aspect, any time you enter a new job or activity, you're the new kid. Everyone in that work place likely knows everyone unless its some huge corporate enterprise. That doesn't mean you can't get a position (especially as a volunteer!) and it doesn't mean you can't fit in eventually.
