I am wondering the same thing. I work full time at an engineering firm and am taking classes part time, so I am stretched for spare time to begin with.

I've heard that volunteering is a must, but an idea of how many hours per week or per month would be helpful. I need a solid plan on how to budget my time, plus I'd like to let the coordinator know how many hours I'd like to get in. Thanks to anyone who responds!

for non-trad, maybe a four hour shift twice a month (think 1/2 day or an evening every other weekend) for a year or two while you work on pre-reqs and it should be in a clinical setting if your paid work isn't clinical.

For a college student, ideally at least 2 years of 2 hrs/wk with increasing responsibility in the organization or by directing/training new volunteers.

Please note that the duration in months as well as the hours is a measure of your dedication to community service.

Thank you very much. That number is lower than what I thought it would be. I am set to apply in May 2011, and can hopefully get a full year of volunteering at Baton Rouge General (I know it's not the 2 years, but I guess it's better than not having any). I will try to work 4-8 hrs each Saturday if I can work it that way, to hopefully help compensate for the 'missing year'
