I am able to volunteer in either the lab or ER I have had experience volunteering in the ER before and was wondering should I continue to volunteer in the ER or start new in the lab?
Both are great for experiences. In the ER, you would have more of a chance for patient contact. In the end, however, it's probably best to choose the one that you are most interested in. Playing with urine is darn fun!
If you already have done ER volunteering, try something new and go with volunteering in the lab. I think it's great to have experience in both areas. Also, volunteering in a lab may help you with finding better research opportunities because you're familiar with lab work and routines which is what a lot researchers are looking for now in people who want to be involved..
What do you mean by lab? If you mean in a research lab doing research, thats awesome and you should totally do it! If you mean the hospital lab, well, its not really patient contact, and you aren't interacting with doctors or nurses at all...
if the PI pushes out pubs and if u can get some sort of tangible benefit at the end (pub, conference, poster, etc...) then go for the lab; ur ER experience is enough, now diversify those experiences and hit a homerun in research!
