I enlisted as 68W (combat medic). I learned that during active duty you acquire 2.5 leave days every month, so in one full year you have 30 days of leave.

I have a few questions...

1.) Can you use your military leave to go overseas such as Uganda etc.. I understand the DOD has put limits or restrictions on certain countries. I'm not sure of all of them, but I did not see Uganda on there, Kenya being one. I was thinking of doing volunteer work during my leave time through IVHQ

2.) Can you use all 30 days up front or 2 weeks at the most of leave here and there?

3.) For questions 1&2 --> I'm guessing you need approval from chain of command regarding overseas leave?

4.) My recruiter and I were talking one day and he mentioned he used up all 30 day leave all at once. I haven't mentioned any of my plans for military leave hence, he wasn't try to persuade me to sign up. It was just a conversation, but some people say you can only use 2 weeks at a time. I wouldn't mind using all 30 days at once traveling to different countries volunteering.

You can use your leave to go overseas, but as I'm sure you know, it is subject to approval by your command. If, for whatever reason, they don't want you going to a particular place, they don't have to approve it.

You can use advanced leave, but they are under no obligation to allow it.

If you use more than a certain amount of leave at a given time, then it typically has to go to a higher level for approval. For example, when I PCS'd it had to go to battalion commander level for signature because I was using more than 30 days, IIRC.

Thank you for the quick response!
