I think it certainly adds a different dimension to your application. I would go for it!

ANYTHING outside of the usual academics that everyone else has to do would looks good on applications. It helps show that you are not just another mindless drone of school..

I would say yes but even if it doesn't, you will be able to improve your communication skills. You can use that as a selling point in interviews or perhaps your personal statement. If you think you will enjoy this, then go for it.
