volunteering / community service

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I know somebody has got to know something about this!

I think it probably depends a lot on the school. I have heard a lot of people say that Loma Linda really wants service oriented people and I know other schools like it as well, such as Arizona, Creighton, but for nearly all schools I think the DAT and GPA are king.

I think it can be a good tie breaker, however, if a school is trying to decide between two students who seem to have identical statistics. I know I would pick the person who volunteered in their community a lot over someone who didn't do any

Community service is ALWAYS a plus. As others have said, at the very least it is a tie breaker. Do some, it'll make ya feel good!

If nothing, your experiences volunteering can be an excellent resource to reference when writing your personal statement.
