So I am volunteering at a hospital for the second summer in a row and I was wondering if it would be look down upon if I volunteered at the same area. (ex: surgery area or escorting patients to their room) Or do they want to see me volunteer in different areas for more exposure? Thank you.

Depends on how long you've spent in each area IMO. You jump around after 12 hours in one area may not be looked upon highly.

For my first summer I spend about 40 hours in the same area. This summer I might do another 40 hours in the same area as my first summer. Is that ok to not switch? I'm getting patient exposure so that is a good thing right?

Should do both - volunteer in same areas for a couple summer and then maybe a summer or year at school do another area. I did couple summers in ER at my hospital at home. Then a a semester in ER again at my school hospital and then the next semester did Radiology.
