Volunteering vs. Shadowing: What goes where in the application?

I am currently volunteering at the rehab institute of Chicago and although I shadow different OT's, i'm technically a volunteer. How would this apply to my actual application? Could I list it as inpatient shadowing or should it be listed under extracurricular experience?

I would definitely call up the school you are applying to and ask them. This shows initiative and reinforces your interest in the program-plus it will give you a clear answer to your question. My guess it that you would put the hours that you shadow in one spot on your application and the time spent volunteering without the OTs (or with less supervision) in a different area.
