Is volunteering at an animal shelter OK for the volunteer part of the application? Or should it be human?

Years ago I was told by an admission Dean that volunteering in a clinical setting was very important.

For community service, volunteering in an animal shelter is great. It does not, however, cover the need for clinical experience. As you are an RN, you don't need more active clinical experience. Some physican shadowing is a good idea though.

Agree with this.

Animal shelter is fine. Med schools want good people who do things they don't have to because they can, because they're civicly minded, and because they are interesting. You can convey that through work at an animal shelter.
