I will be applying to D.O. schools in 2012. I'm only 2 classes and MCAT away from applying. I have only 8 hours of volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. I'm going to start ESOL tutoring with local county literacy council in 2 weeks. I'll continue to do ESOL tutoring until next August.
Is clinical volunteering required or recommended by D.O. schools or can I simply do non-clinical volunteering and apply? Also, how many hours of volunteering(clinical and non-clinical) is recommeneded?

FYI! I'll be applying to LECOM(Bradenton), NOVA, PCOM(Georgia) and Midwestern(CCOM).

I'd recommend at least 6 months of volunteering at least four hours a week, if you have time. That will give you close to 100 hours. If you don't do clinical volunteer work you might consider some shadowing.

Thanks, Briton. I'll most probably have more than 100 hours of non-clinical volunteering. I am also going to shadow a few osteopathic physicians from different specialties.
Any other advices will be truly appreciated. 🙂
