Hello,
I am a post-bac student currently completing my pre-reqs. I made a mistake this semester by signing up for a non pre-requisite biology course that I am doing poorly in. I would really rather use this valuable time in preparing for the PCAT rather than bust my butt for a C in a non pre-requisite course.

I want to drop the course but a "W" (withdraw) will show on my transcript. It will be my first (and only) W. Do you think this will hurt my chances for getting into a pharm program? My GPA is fine but I just feel that this course is serving me no good. Also, does anyone know if Pharmcas will simply exclude withdrawn courses from GPA calculation, or will they count it as an F?

Thanks.

i had interviews and got into a pharm school with a W, i wouldnt worry too much about it, especially if you dont need it.

I had this same question as you. I had a "W" and several "Pass/Fails" on my college transcript--I have enclosed a link to Pharmcas and it will make you feel a lot better 🙂

Hey,

If its a course you do not need do not worry about it too much. I had the same thing in a Pre-Calc Course that I registered for by mistake! I already took the course my freshman year, but accidentally registered for it! So don't really worry about it. Sometimes it comes up in interviews are essay questions were they ask if there is anything negative on you academic record that you would like to address and thats were you should address it. Just be honest, it worked for me!

yeah if its only a couple W's it shouldn't impact you much especially if its not a pre req. Its when people start having a bunch of withdraws on their transcript where I'd think it would really start looking pretty bad. Unless theirs a good reason for it that is (illness, death, family problems, etc.) I have a W in a college algebra class and don't think it will/has impacted me in the least.

I have nine Ws on my transcript, and I've been accepted to pharmacy school.

I find it quite sad to think illness, death, family problems, etc. are "good reasons" to explain W's. I know what you mean though....

I have 7 W and 3 being from pre-requisite classes. I never got questioned about them. I got accepted.

GPA 3.48 though...

I'm not quite sure what you mean. I'm saying that there are circumstances where there are legitimate reasons why someone might be forced to withdraw from there classes even though very rare. I've heard of people getting really sick or having a family member get really sick and having to drop what they are doing to take care of them. I didn't mean someone should make this up. I'm only saying there are legitimate reasons that should be recognized (although they are extremely rare) why people might withdraw as opposed to someone withdrawing due to laziness or not being able to handle it.

mcphs-w waitlisted me right away without an interview because of my Withdraw, they told me if I couldnt handle the stress in college, i wouldn't make it at their school, so don't apply their

i have 1 W (for o-chem 2) and i was granted an interview by mcphs-worcester...it might have been other reasons they waitlisted you - i have no clue
