I'm debating whether to drop a course and get a W or stick it out. It's one of the science prereqs. Course should be easy but I had a nightmare situation in which I missed a large quiz due to misreading the schedule and prof will not let me make it up.

If I drop the course and retake, I figure my post bacc GPA to be 3.7, but will have a W
Meanwhile, if I finish the course I'll likely get a B-/C+ and will end up 3.6 post bacc GPA.

I realize neither the W nor bad grade will absolutely doom me, but which one hurts me less? I figure a 3.6 post bacc GPA is still competitive but a C+ looks bad and maybe closes a few doors. Meanwhile, a 3.7 post bacc GPA is better, but the W looks also bad.

My undergrad in gpa was 3.8, had two W's. No MCAT yet. No other red flags.

I'm leaning towards drop because I know I can get an A if I retake the course. However, I know there is a good chance I will be asked about the W, and my explanation is kinda iffy.

If you're really certain you can get an A, I'd take the W. If anyone asks why it's on your transcript, you can just tell the truth, own up to your scheduling mistake and turn it into a learning experience.

Even if that learning experience is "I learned how to read right and do other things good too"...

I'd take the W and retake; getting a B-/C+ because you missed a quiz isn't really a true indication of your ability in that class. And don't beat yourself up over misreading the schedule; it happens to the best of us. Just be extra careful from here on out.
