Hey y'all,

I'm an author on three abstracts submitted to an important conference that are almost certain to be accepted (either as posters or oral presentations). Problem is, I probably won't know for sure until early July. I want to include them in my primary application, particularly because I only have one other publication / poster, but I know applying as early as possible is important.

Do you think it would be best to apply now and submit an update to each school when I get official acceptance, or wait and include these posters/presentations in my primary application?

Thanks for any input!

Put it in your primary application and at the end write Submitted: Journal of Awesome

+1, if your primary is ready to go, submit it now. Those secondary essays take a while to write. You can do as the poster says, put them as "submitted", and then follow up with med schools with an update when the abstracts get accepted.

So you think I should just have a single entry for all of my research rather than a separate one for each poster / presentation?

Just asking because I'm not sure I'll have enough space to include everything in a single entry and want to be consistent with the format.

Probably one for each poster/presentation would be a waste, and would eat up too many of your activities (I think you get 15 total). If it doesn't all fit in one, you could break it down into 2 or 3 (or however many) in a way that makes sense to you/adcoms, eg. journal papers in one and posters/presentations in another or posters in one and presentations in another.

Mine was all on the same topic so I kept it in one entry. If this is the case with yours try to give a concise overview of your research topic and then list the submissions.

Something like:

My research project investigated the efficacy of laffy-taffy in shrinking testicular tumors in a giraffe model. So far we have found significant evidence that laffy-taffy is capable of shrinking testicular tumors at a higher rate compared to radiation therapy. Abstracts have been submitted to the International Society of Giraffe Testicular Cancer yearly meeting and are awaiting approval for presentation.

If they are on different topics you can split them up if you have room.
