Hi friends!

With the ADEA app opening in just a couple days, I wanted to ask for some personal advice. I am a reapplicant, so I have taken the DAT before. My scores were average, but I was more disappointed in my PAT score (<18). I am retaking it in a month after TONS of studying and feel much more confident in my abilities.

Should I wait to submit my application alongside with my old DAT scores in early June or wait until I take the test to submit my application. I've read some mixed reviews saying that schools could early-reject me based on my past scores if I turn it in without the new score update.

I apologize if this is a repeat, I just would love some guidance.

Thanks!

Stats? And when exactly do you plan on retaking the DAT?

Can you give us a snapshot of your ECs, shadowing and gpa so we can make a better assessment?

What exactly are your DAT scores (and GPA)? If it was only the PAT section that went badly it might not even be worth retaking, that section isn't weighed too heavily.

So my PAT was a 15 (I know, I was really underprepared for this section), but my AA was a 22 (no section below 19 except PAT). GPA is a 3.3 and sGPA is a 3.4. I know my stats are pretty average, which is why I am planning on retaking the DAT asap.

Extracurriculars include: Shadowing (200+ hours, I am continuing this summer), Heavy research (I am in two labs, one lab I have two submitted publications and a poster that was presented at a Drosophila Conference in San Diego, and am a paid lab manager for my second lab, a psychology lab), over 1000+ of research hours and volunteer work. I know I'm not too special, so I really want to give it my all and improve my application for this upcoming cycle.

I honestly don't think a retake is necessary. You already have strong DAT scores and I don't think the low PAT is going to hold you back at all.

At some schools they have talked to (Louisville for example) they do consider the PAT heavily. Don't think it'll stop you from getting in at all but just some food for thought.

I just worry because my GPA is pretty low and I only got 1 interview invite this last cycle and am really worried that I'm going to get rejected again. Any advice for me? I did submit my app late (due to one of my recommendors just not being responsive to me at all) and took my DAT late and everything was processed in October. Perhaps that was the reason for my shortcoming?

I definitely think I'm set on retaking the DAT because I invested a lot of time in studying again and feel more confident. Thanks for letting me know!
