Now I have an interview up at a harder school and feel very unconfident. Still waiting for two more schools to either contact me for interview or just reject.

Hi. What are you worried about? Do you have somebody you can do mock interviews with? Have you done some interview prep? Congrats on getting an interview.

So I read some of your old posts. So you are from Puerto Rico, lower numbers with a mcat retake with improvement, right? Where's the interview? Are you worried about any language aspects of it? I think we need more information to advise you.

I am also confused about the subject of this thread versus your concern expressed in it.

Lack of confidence going into the interview for a more competitive school than the one I was waitlisted at. I have done interview prep and mock interviews and the feedback was great, but now after being waitlisted I don't know if it was because of a bad interview. What I didn't like about that interview was that it was a group interview and closed file in which they didn't care about your MCAT or GPA. That didn't give me a chance to thoroughly explain my low grades at the beginning of college.

Brought up my MCAT to 30, which is pretty high for PR schools. I'm guessing that is the only reason I am being interviewed at this school.

Should I even bring up that I was waitlisted at another school?
I want them to see me as the student who finished strong the last 2 years of college and got a high MCAT instead of the one that had trouble at the beginning of college.

The schools want to get to know you with the interview. The goal is make sure you are a good person who they want to train. If they are interviewing you, they think your numbers are good enough. No need to explain things that aren't being asked or matter. You already got your foot in the door.

I wouldn't talk about any other schools while at another school's interview, especially to say you are on their wait list.

You have a great chance at another school. Just take it for what it is. It is a better school and they are interested in you.

Thanks. I really appreciate your help. I'm just really nervous, since I'm a reapplicant and can't imagine what I would be if I was rejected.

What should I answer if they ask me what I would do if I'm not accepted anywhere?

So, you are saying you can't imagine what you would do if you were rejected and you don't know how to answer the same question.

If that question comes up in interviews, they are more asking about your ability to see your own limitations in yourself and your application, a chance to show you are humble, and also to show you have other interests in life. Don't take the question too personally. Just have a well thought out answer ready that addressed the real reasons they are asking.

You'd be a reapplicant for the 2nd time. Hopefully, by the 3rd app cycle, you'd fix whatever was missing. I sense of a lot of self-esteem issues here, and if you don't fix those, interviewers will pick up on this. For starters, is your heart really in Medicine?

Try talking to a counselor about this.

At my school we're not allowed to ask that, but apparently, it's fair game at other schools. So what do you do? You tell the truth. If you're a doctor, you have to ask patients some pretty personal and embarrassing questions too.

What should I answer if they ask me what I would do if I'm not accepted anywhere?

If it was a closed file interview, then there was no need ot explain your grades. The interview is like politics in some ways; if you're explaining, you're losing. The school thought well enough about you to invite you, which means they thought you could survive their program. Thus, there is NO need to explain anything. Just be yourself, and know what's in your app package.

Helpful as always, Goro. I PM'ed you a while back about my situation, not sure if you remember me.

After all this trouble, I couldn't be more sure that I want to study medicine. I'm eager to start the studying and learning process. If it was for me, I would keep reapplying, but I can't really go on living with my parents until I get accepted at medical school. Plus, I'm already accepted at UAG, which is not somewhere I want to go :/

They are not that supportive of my readmission process and consider me "2 years behind schedule" just because I should have gone on to medical school after a 4 year college degree. Haven't even told them about my waitlist, because their pessimism will kill me going into probably my last interview. A bit ignorant I know, but what can I do. That might explain the self-esteem issues.

So anyway, I will just forget about my waitlist and think that a great school is interested in me and I should do my best to present myself as a student they would desire.

Hope you are well too, Goro.

Interview is tomorrow. Heard a rumor that it's an MMI interview. I guess that favors me. Best of luck to me. 🙂

Thanks Goro. It's actually "buena suerte", but I can see how it can be confused with "buenos días"

I think it went pretty well. Some weird questions but I answered the best that I could. They will let me know by the beginning of April. Can't wait!
