Has anyone a situation where they have been waitlisted for just the interview? If so, were you taken off? And did you go? I've been waitlisted for Mayo and while I would love to go visit, the idea of waiting until almost the last minute to book a flight does not sit well with me, or my bank account. Is it even worth it? Or can I try to see if I can't request a phone interview? I would definitely book a flight up there if I was going to interview, but waiting possibly a day or two before had makes me uneasy. Any advice would be appreciated!! 🙂

I'm waitlisted for an interview at Regis. They interview at the end of January, which is approaching quickly so I don't have high hopes for that. If I do get invited though, I will probably buy a last minute ticket as long as it doesn't conflict with my AT Still interview that is also at the end of January.

Is it even worth it? Or can I try to see if I can't request a phone interview?

I've asked myself if going to certain interviews were worth it. All the time, effort, and money. Whether or not it's worth it is something only you can decide, but a couple of the key things I thought about were:

- How much I like the program
- The other interviews I've been offered

For example, I have been offered 6 interviews so far, which was way more than I expected. Since 3 of those schools were back-ups and those interviews were either offered on really inconvenient dates, or it was going to cost a lot to get myself there, I decided to decline those. Instead I've chosen to use my resources going to the interviews for schools I would much rather go to. However, if I had been offered interviews only at my back-up schools, I probably would have made a much greater effort to go.

So I think if you end up getting a last-minute offer to go interview, it will depend on how you feel about the program and your current situation and whether or not the pros outweigh the cons. And hey, maybe they would be open to a phone interview if you requested it.

I hope that helped in some way and wasn't too rambly. Good luck!

NoleGirl,

I have no clue as to how the "interview wait list" situation works. In fact, I have never heard of such a thing. I will say that I did an interview with Mayo 10 days ago, and I was sold! I wonder if it has anything to do with the class size. Since they only accept 28 students, maybe the logistics of interviews are different. When I was there Dr. Hollman said they had more than half of the class filled, so maybe the interviews are becoming even more competitive. You have some pretty damn good stats so I would still keep my fingers crossed, but I understand your frustration about the waiting game. I know you said it was in your "top 3" in a previous post. I don't know if that has changed, but if it hasn't I would wait it out just a little longer to see if you get a definite interview. Also, contact the program to establish how long it takes to find how long it takes for a student to be moved to from the interview "wait list" to the actual interview list.

Ox, what sold you about the program? I know you mentioned you had an interview at Columbia too...did you go? I was very impressed with them. What made you choose Mayo over it? Mayo is still in my top three, but even looking at flights to MN 3 months from now was still $$$ and it adds up. I've gotten interview offers at everywhere I've applied, and when I asked to change the interview date of one, they actually asked if I wanted a phone interview instead. I'll call them tomorrow and see what kind of time frame I'm looking at. It's still going to be a lot of money so I hope the possibility of a phone interview is available. On the other end, seeing the facilities and meeting the faculty is also key when choosing a school. I'm going to continue to mull over it for a few days...
