To mirror the "II This Week", and the "Rejections This Week" threads. Maybe we can post the following to get sort of an idea on who they are wait listing, even though this whole process is a crap shoot.
1) School name and Interview date
2) Stats

I'll start : LECOM-B. 9/10
3.2/ 32

Maybe we can share ideas on how we can show them our continued interest or just use this as a place to vent.
Anybody else wanna share?

Three days after your interview and your worried your waitlisted?? Relax...

umm..I am not speculating that I may be waitlisted. I called the school and this is what they told me.

Then I would suggest not putting a question mark behind the post title...

I'm Ron Burgundy? You've got butt hurt?

I think he was just trying to follow the other "...this week?" threads.

To show continued interest, send the schools a update on what you are doing every 1.5-2 months. Make sure that your updates are actually updates and not a reiteration of what they already know. Also, if you are dead set on going to a school that you are wait listed at, send in a letter of intent following your wait-list status. That helps tremendously.

Some schools say they don't accept updates. Make sure you don't send anything to those.

This is true. I don't know which schools don't accept updates, but if I were to be more specific based on my experiences, only send updates to schools with a wait list that is not ranked until later.

Ex. Touro-CA ranks you in their wait list as soon as you are placed in the wait list. there is no point to sending them updates or even sending them a letter of intent as it will not improve your chances of acceptance off of the wait list. DMU doesn't rank their waitlist until May.

At the interview, they actually mentioned how much they want people to send updates/LOI in case of WL. I will wait a while and then start sending them.

Since MedPR isn't here I figured I'd take care of that for you!

First thing I thought of is William Ferrell as "Angry Boss" from SNL. Youtube it.

YOU DO NOT.. YOU DO NOT DO THIS ON MY WATCH.

I'm not much of a grammar nazi, but thanks anyway

Oh man I could have sworn I've seen you correct many people on their terrible grammar! Perhaps I've confused with another?:eyebrow:

I might when people are acting stupid, but not usually. 😉

Thanks to you guys for sticking to the original topic of this thread. I had stopped coming on here because people were going way off tangent. Whatever, thats SDN I guess. 🙄

Does getting waitlisted really depend on your stats rather than the interview...or is it a combo of both? I always figured your stats were good enough if they extended you an interview in the first place. Otherwise they would put you on hold or reject pre interview...?

could be either or both

Ya that doesn't make much sense. Why even extend the interview invite in the first place if an applicants stats are leaving a bad taste in the adcoms mouth...What are they looking at when they prescreen for secondaries and then review for the invite to interview? If applicants have other redeeming qualities but lack competitive stats and will most likely end up waitlisted (solely because of their stats), why not just place those people on hold pre-interview and interview those with a legitimate chance of acceptance?

I don't know. My interview wasn't stellar, but it also wasn't bad. I think LECOM-B just waitlists a lot of people.

I think as applicants we would like to believe that once we have been invited for interviews, our stats are considered competitive by the school. Unfortunately, much of my research on this topic has led me to believe that this simply isn't the case. I have read posts by multiple adcoms who post on SDN and books that suggest that it is not uncommon for schools to waitlist people due to their stats. What I think ends up happening is that most of us have enough of a personality to carry a conversation to not completely bomb an interview that the competitive pool of applicants leaves schools no choice but to waitlist people due to some other deficiencies in their application. In all honesty, this whole process is such a crap shoot so all we can do is put our best foot forward and hope for the best.:xf:

The people that look at the primary/secondary applications and interview invitations are usually not the same people that give the interviews.

Ya, I understand that, but there has to be communication between these folks who are involved in making decisions during the the process.

but aren't these people all part of the same group of admission committee who make the final decision?

No. Interviewers are often times just people who volunteer for the duty and will "vouch" for you during the committee decision on your file.

Professors/Students/Admissions personnel are all potential interviewers that are not on the admissions committee.

with schools carrying over last years wait listed students and a number of acceptances showing up, has anyone been acepted for a waitlist yet? It seems that with rumors of interview dates already apearing for April 2013 that some should be hitting waitlists.

It appears so far most of these have been from 1 school. How about anyone else?

I think the reason why schools do this is to cover their ***es and because there's a happy medium between having the best applicants matriculate and having enough people to have a full class.

My theory:

Let's say a school only has 700 interview slots for the entire season. They understand that there is high chance that people who have the highest stats will probably get into another school and not attend their school. Therefore, they invite a range of people which include people with high to below-average stats to interview. Then because everyone's equally personable and sane, they pick the applicants with the highest stats (since there's no reason to reject them) and wait-list the others as a precaution so that they can extend an acceptance at a later date. After the December deposit date and the already accepted people withdraw their applications for other schools, that's when the program knows realistically how many people are matriculating so far. Then they start interviewing MORE people with lower stats with accepting some and wait-listing others.

The reason why there doesn't seem to be much movement on the wait-list at first is because the school is waiting towards the end of spring when most applicants know where they'll go. After that, the school goes down their wait-list.

Perhaps now might be a good time to update on who feels like they are now interviewing for a wait list spot. Not that may necessarily be bad since there may be movement and some schools roll over this years wit list to next years class.

What schools rollover?
It tends to vary some for example WVSOM say they make a decision yearly but so far have always done it. I think iy depends on the size and quality of the list. A search of last year school threads should help.
