Hey all,

Need some insight in regards to the position I'm in right now. I've applied to a bunch of DO schools early, and have yet to hear from them in regards to an interview even after updating my application and MCAT. I updated my MCAT around August and my grades in January. I got one interview and a couple rejections, but there is still a decent amount of DO schools that haven't gotten back to me yet.

I'm wondering why this is the case. I feel like if I haven't gotten an interview yet, I'm probably not going to get one any time soon, so why keep me on, if that makes sense. I'm sure by now, a bunch of applicants have already interviewed and submitted a deposit. Should I be optimistic? When can I expect some kind of a response?

Thanks
Al

There could be many reasons. Usually schools have very fast turn around if your stats (academic and non-academic) are good. I had the fastest 1 day turnaround for interview invite. Since you've gotten one interview so far, it seems to me you are borderline competitive and perhaps not so much at the others. It could be due to low GPA/MCAT, bad LORs, little extracurriculars, or mediocre essays.

If you haven't heard back at this point, you are likely rejected or interviewing for a waitlist if you did get an invite. I would re-assess your primary and secondary applications and prepare to re-apply in June.

This. Most schools are too busy to even send rejection notices. Idk what your stats are like but try to assess how you can improve for next cycle (if its possible for you to apply).

All stat dependent. At my school, if you're competitive, there's a~ 6 week turn-around from receipt of secondary and issuance of II. I suspect that your numbers are < avg for the schools you targeted. Can you enlighten us?

MCAT: 25, 24, 25, 30

sGPA ~ 3.14
cGPA ~ 3.33

Volunteered at a hospital for a summer
Two research experiences, both in a hospital
Internship at Blue Cross Blue Shield
Other volunteer experiences (non health related)

I don't have a committee letter though, and I have to redo orgo (Cs in both).

How many years/hours did you do each EC for and what is your school list this cycle?

I had almost identical stats, except only one shot at the MCAT. I was offered two ii and got one acceptance. Only a handful of rejections so far and a bunch of holds. I know a few people have mentioned they have been offered interviews recently. I actually got one of my interviews by emailing the school. They responded to that email with an interview invite, so it is worth a shot to get in contact with the school.

OP, your sciGPA is low. With 4 times of MCAT retakes, there is no improvement for the first 3, and the 4th time you got 30 which, they may think, is a fluke. So I think the adcom has to be careful when picking you for the interview. However, it also depends on the schools you've applied to. What are they? What is the breakdown of your MCAT?

Schools that invited me:
ACOM

Schools that rejected me:
Midwestern University Chicago
AT Still (both campuses)
KCOM
Marian University
LECOM (both campuses)
Des Moines

Schools I'm waiting on:
Midwestern Arizona
Michigan State U.
PCOM (Both Campuses)
Oklahoma State U.
West Virginia
Nova Southeastern
Lincoln Memorial - Debusk
Ohio University Heritage COM

ECs:
Research Assistant, U of C - 60 hours (data collection from patients for Hospitalist Project)
Research Assistant, Cook County Hospital - 20 hours (data entry for palliative medicine project)

Internship, Blue Cross and Blue Shield Assoc. - 236 hours

Volunteer, Northshore University Health System - 50 hours
Volunteer, Teacher's Assistant, Casa Central Elementary School - 20 hours
Volunteer, Caring Connections for Seniors - 25 hours (helped elderly at their homes)

I think I'll reach out to these schools and see whether I'll be invited or not.

I forgot Rocky Vista and Rowan. I'm waiting on an invite or rejection from them as well.

Are you saying secondaries don't play as big a role if you got competitive to semi-competitive stats in terms of getting a II? Granted, you dont write a horrible secondary riddled with typos and such of course...
