wait until ECFMG verifies?

I am a foreign medical graduate from India currently in U.S.A.

I am planning to take USMLE step 1 soon. I have not received my final diploma yet but have a provisional one. Can I schedule a test date now or do I have to wait until ECFMG verifies my credentials from my medical school?

You need to wait until you've received your orange ticket with your scheduling number on it before you schedule. So what happens is...you apply online, but you have to get something signed by your school's office confirming you were a student and things like that, and have them mail it back to the ECFMG. Then they mail you an orange ticket with a scheduling number, then you can schedule your date.
