So, I have not heard much of anything from the schools I have applied to. Has anyone else not heard anything from their schools regarding invites? Granted, the majority of my applications were due in mid January, and nobody has posted anything on them in the interview invite forum. Aside from "congrats your application is complete", everything is quiet. Anyone else suffering from impatience? 🙂

Ugh, completely-- I just got a phone interview on Tuesday, and haven't heard a peep otherwise. There are a couple of my schools on the list, but they were the crazy reach schools that I wasn't counting on. The silence is deafening! :scared:

Same here. All of my schools had late due dates and none of them are on the list... I hate this waiting game! No interviews, nothing. I'm constantly on my email and by my phone... 😕

Plus, when you hear everyone else getting interviews, it makes you even more antsy. And a more compulsive email checker 😉

Oh I know what you mean! Honestly, I have some schools on that list, but they all say email invite from POI so I am hoping that it's not as definite as a mass email and that I might still have a chance. :xf:This whole waiting thing is making me anxious although it's only the 21st of January.
Anyway, enough ranting 🙂 Good luck to all :luck:

Most of my schools had EARLY deadlines and I still have not heard anything. I know a couple of rejection letters have gone out for a few yet I have not been notified. I am being optimistic that I may be on a wait list. It would be a real drag to not know until April about a rejection. An acceptance would be swell but a rejection would be ... well a drag.

I second the email/grad cafe compulsion.

I freaked out this afternoon when my phone finally rang with an unknown number. ...turned out it was just a woman from church reminding me to bring dessert this weekend. Evil, EVIL!! :meanie:

Only submitted two apps (geographic limitations) and nothing so far, but one is on the list.
My ringtone is the sound of crickets, way too ironic in this situation.

Some of my deadlines were Dec. 1st, Some Dec 5th, Jan 1st and Jan15. I HAVE HEARD NOTHING! 3 schools are on the list. 1 far reach (Wasn't even expecting anything) 1 that I really wanted, and 1 psyd that I thought would deff. AT LEAST interview.

Not to mention that my email goes straight to my blackberry along with texts, bbm's, gchats, and a billion other notifications. I just assume it's nothing special, and then secretly hope, deep down, that it's my dream professor calling from an amazing school with a bag of cash... oh a girl can dream.

So far I've been working on applying to internships and research positions (no call backs there either) The thought of retaking the GRE's, creating a new SOP, and repaying app. fees next year is enough to make me want to bury my head in the covers.

This thread seems like a great place to vent. 🙂 I have received two interview invites, but those were over a week ago (and that seems like a very long time!). My biggest reach school appeared on the list a while ago, and three of my other programs (which I did not think were total reaches) popped up today and yesterday. I looked back over last year's thread, and it seems that things should really pick up next week. Fingers crossed!

We should ask the mods if we can have a Cafe thread (aka venting thread 😀) for those in the waiting game.

I think this is that thread!

Anyway, without a doubt I can say waiting is so much worse than actually applying. Especially since I haven't heard a thing!

You haven't heard anything yet? Me either! We must be awesome!!!

I'm so glad I woke up and read this. I am in the same boat (no interviews, got excited about unknown number, look at my Blackberry every 5 seconds even though I have the volume on, etc.). Whenever I start feeling the anxiety creeping in I'm going to use this thread as a calming therapy technique...hopefully I won't be doing this much longer!!!

Here I come to vent. I have one invite and 2 other schools on the list whose dates have passed and I'm pretty sure have rejected me. I have heard nothing from 9 schools. NINE. Seriously? Ugh.

It looks like next week is going to be very hectic around here.

I had a day of mourning yesterday for all the schools that I think I've been rejected to. I have one interview so far but that still isn't very good odds. I know how competitive the ph.d. programs are but maybe I underestimated them a little 🙁

The rest of my schools have historically emailed on 2/5. Just in time for me to cry on my birthday. Honestly this board ruins my day. 👎 (No offense)

7 schools, no invites. I've gotten a rejection from UOregon and a request for lost GRE scores...

Starting to look at my other options. Such as being a forest ranger.

Just make sure to protect those picnic baskets, I hear those bears are quite mischievous! 😀

15 schools no invites, no rejections, no nothing.

The waiting game continues...
:luck:

My boss has actually had to request that I stop looking at SDN as much as I do, since it just makes me even more nervous! But I can't help it, the suspense is killing me... I haven't received any formal rejections or any interview invites, plus a few of my schools are on the list! Just hoping that I'm wait-listed somewhere or that my POIs are just taking their time. :xf:

But just in case I have to bust out the Fail Cake sometime soon, I'm looking at Plan B...

Thank god. I felt like I was the only one. We should start jeff foxworthy parodies like you may have been rejected from a program if... People invited say Your school interviews within the week and you have yet to hear anything 🙂

So this is my second year applying (I didn't even get any interviews last year...talk about heart break!!). I have heard back from one school so far informing me I was not invited for an interview (fabulous) and now I am constantly checking my email, my phone and mailbox every chance I get. My plan B is MSW program (which I was sure I would get into but now I have that ominous feeling). My plan C is high school psychology teacher/coach....haha there is no way I can afford another year applying. Last chance for me...I hope everyone else is getting the news they want!!! :xf:

I hear you! This is my third time applying with no previous interviews either. I've retaking the GRE 4 times just to get them to look at my application! This year I received one interview so far-but I'm hoping for at least one more. Plan B...move to Greece and become a cheesemaker with my husband because my heart can bear another year of this. Good luck!

"What am I supposed to do, go back to Wisconsin and work in the cheese mines after I gave that big speech and threw down my cheese shovel and stormed out?"

(Points for whoever knows what that's from!)

b.o.t.

Good luck everyone! I know the waiting game.....it is horrible!

"I don't think it's nice to maul Ranger Ned." 😀

(It'd be awesome if anyone got that quote!)

I feel like I'm in three different stages of the waiting game at once:

Waiting for invite notification

Waiting for the interviews themselves

Waiting for post-interview decisions

I applied to seven phd programs and 1 psyd program...so far I've gotten one interview and three other schools apparently sent out interview requests 🙂scared🙂. One of the school that sent out interviews was a major reach, but the other two were top choices, and I'm trying to figure out what about my application made them decide not to invite for interview....I graduated from college last year w/ a 3.92 average and 4.0 psych average, I got highest honors for my psych thesis and won an award for it, and I've been working as an RA for over a yr....I don't get it! I haven't published anything and now I'm beginning to think my research interests were too vaguely stated in my essay.
this sucks!

Try not to take it personally - there are far more qualified applicants than apply than that they can take. Even after you weed out the people who apply on a lark or who clearly aren't doctoral level material, they probably have 2 to 3 times more qualified applicants than they have interview slots. You not getting selected for an interview doesn't necessarily mean that you weren't qualified or weren't a good fit, just that perhaps someone else was a slightly better fit. Fit is far more important than test scores or GPA, trust me.

Hi-
Try not to be too hard on yourself. I was extremely hard on myself because one of my top schools sent out invites a week before I got an invitation. You may still be in the running but they haven't gotten to your application. I haven't heard from 8 of my schools and I'm trying to keep my head up. I know how hard it is to be optimistic after reading the other board but perhaps they haven't gotten to us yet.

I have no choice B so I really hope I get in somewhere. Does everyone have a plan B?

I can’t stand the waiting! One of the schools (a top choice, but not a reach) didn’t receive my GRE scores until weeks after the deadline. I had it mailed from ETS on two occasions, and I personally faxed over the scores twice when I heard the school still didn’t receive them. According to the woman that I spoke with from admissions, the tardiness of my GRE scores would not affect the review of my application. However, it seems people have already been getting calls to interview before my application was even considered complete. How can this not hurt my chances?! This, combined with the fact that no other schools have contacted me either (their deadlines were mid-January), has made me pretty stressed and frustrated. Thanks for letting me vent………..

my plan b is to continue on my track of getting my lpc (which i should be able to apply for in a year and a half) and pay off my grad school (master's) debt. AND spend time with my husband, travel, and live life. if i dont get accepted, that means ill have more time to do those things!! so, not SO bad, i guess 😉 maybe i'll try again next year, i dont know.

ugh this waiting is really terrible though!! i'm waiting for 3 schools, and it seems like they haven't even sent out interviews yet.. and one more school whose app is due feb 1st.. i guess i could be going through all of this for quite some time still..??? 🙁

This sounds like a FABULOUS Plan B! But still, best of luck!

+1 You just reminded me that I still have that option. Spend time with my husband, travel and live life. This application process has been like living in a tunnel for the last 4-6 months.

I just have to decide whether or not we can squeeze a baby in between now and when I apply/interview. Don't want to be showing come interview day. So I'd need to give birth by January OR be in the first trimester this time next year.:scared:🙄

In the mean time I am going to take the next 6-8 months to study for the GRE, add a few presentations to the CV and really fine tune my interests.

Waiting for post-interview decision info is even worse, IMO.

I had my first and only interview on Friday and this is my 2nd year applying. I am not really anticipating any other interview invites, but there is one school I may hold out a little bit of hope for since it isn't on the list yet. And I think the worst part is that the committee is meeting TOMORROW (Wednesday) to make their acceptance decisions... I am a little anxious today, I have no idea how I will be able to keep it together tomorrow. And then if I don't hear anything Thursday I may have to go on a weekend binge! Ahhhhhh!

Thus far one of my back-up plans is doing Teach For America. Last years back-up plan didn't pan out cuz I was unable to secure an RA position. I suppose I will apply for some of those again too. I think I will go do that now to ease my mind and make me feel proactive since waiting is anything but!

LMAO! My husband and I have this talk all the time. Before I even started applying I kept saying I can't get pregnant now, no one will accept me if I go to interviews will a baby bump

So for the first time in many years, I do have some interviews (Yay! By all that's holy, yay!) and am trying to figure something out. I am still waiting on several of my top schools (and I can't really tell if they're done or not). I'm afraid to schedule flights/cancel classes/reorganize my life, because if I do get an interview at a more preferred school (and the dates conflict), I'll drop one of my existing ones. Can I email the non-chatty schools and ask if I'm still in the running? Is that too pushy?

Can I just send an email that says "Do you still like me: check one [yes] [no]"

This is like every bad relationship with an emotionally distant partner I've ever had.

Any help is appreciated!

I say make your arrangements for the interviews you have been invited to, if the other schools end up conflicting there is always the possibility for alternative interview dates. I read in another thread that schools are usually very understanding and flexible. Also, you don't want to not go to as many interviews as possible, need to keep your chances open in all the schools if possible.

You know what seems to make the waiting worse? Those stupid emails from schools that I haven't even applied to advertising their program... "You want to be a psychologist? Try our program!" UGH! Way to fake me out.... 🙁

Ugggh, completely agree!!! What's worse is that I have my email linked to my blackberry and every time I see that I have an email from a school it turns out to be an advertisement!!! Definitely increases my anxiety every single time... 🙁

haha. this thought has also crossed my mind. but i cant imagine having a baby while im in a doctoral program! that would be so masochistic.

haha my mom had me when she was getting her phd in clinical psych...AND towards the end she was living in boston while her program was in ontario, canada. I'm thinking I will have enough difficulties just getting through as is.

This is my line of thinking as well, trying to balance this with my ticking biological clock.

Yes! He laughed when I said that! Doesnt believe that if I show up with a bump that it may raise concerns.

More power to her. At the latest I plan to be pregnant in my last year of coursework.

I have a baby who is now 18 months. If you are serious about having one, think about the age it will be when you start. A newborn and grad school at the same time might be hellacious. Some babies don't sleep through the night for a year (mine) and are really needy and exhausting.
